My work (cut out and embossing)
This is also an Embossing of a cut out I haven’t mounted this one to show you what has been cut out and what is left of the paper to leave a mark like this on the paper above.
My work (cut out and embossing )
The image to the right is an embossing of the
image below this works by compressing a cut out
like the one below and placing it on top of
fabriano
paper this is a soft paper and is easy emboss
with)
then the two are rolled between two metal rollers
and tightly compressed together,
leaving a shadowed image like the one to the left.

This is a very rewarding part of cutting out an image there are so many possibilities with paper once it has been cut into a pattern.
My work ( paper cuts)
The skull on the left is made up of layers upon layers of
white cartridge paper; it took me a while to work out which part of the skull I
should do next, and which layer it should sit on. But I am really pleased with
the outcome.
Fantasy Island
The Cut out on right took me 4 whole days to complete but I wouldn’t
take that time back for i am really pleased with the final product every time I
cut into paper I never feel disappointed with the work because it always looks
clean in neat. Each cut I have done aren’t anything like the last even if they
are on the same subject each tells its own story.
The story told in the roots of the tree
describes the torture and the trapped life a fairy leads when caught to give
you your precious fairy dust. You think your magic powder is made from the
happy, life fulfilling fairies of the forest but in reality the trolls are our
workers and they work day and night to grind the magic from the corpses of fairies.
To provide you with your daily demand of wishes, you didn’t think you won the
lottery on your own did you?
We were asked to produce a map of England from the top of
our heads, so me not knowing my own country very well and not even knowing what
town I’m in when I call a taxi (dyslexic) I found this a daunting task however I
have found out I wasn’t far off but couldn’t be so wrong at the same time. Hope
you get a giggle at where I have placed some of the places
(Have a look at how I
have spelt Dover)
This is cut out of cartridge paper and took me a little less
time in comparison to my fantasy island but still time consuming.
My work ( Paper stencil)
Hand cut paper |
After cutting the above image out of black card I was able
to put it on to a screen so I was able to screen print, I began on paper then
onto fabric eventually making cushions. I really enjoyed cutting the image out
and seeing it repeated when I was printing it. This is process is spot on for
me every stage I enjoy.

Nina Chakrabarti (piracy project and maps )
Nina Chakrabarti
This is an artist I was asked to use right at the beginning of this semester and someone I really enjoyed researching, I decided to look at her website to see if any new things had been added and found some of her work very helpful with something I am doing now.
In drawing enquiry we have been researching maps and other artist who use maps in their own work and I was so pleased to find Nina had also incorporated maps into her work.

Tyler Edlin ( fantasy island)
http://gamefan84.deviantart.com/
I found this art work on a blog , the blog of Tyler Edlin. The use of colour and ideas are what drew me to these images, the shear imagination hidden behind the closed doors it’s as if this designer didn’t just design the outside of this world but inside it too like a game designer would. I just found them magical to look at

Maps
I have chosen these maps together not because there by the
same artist because there not they all show a different style in drawing and
designing a fantasy island some of them are in colour some are not some are
made to look like any other island that is amongst our seas, and others are
more theatrical and shaped as sculls or other animals, Inspiration for Friday.
Dubi (Maps Real islands )
When I spotted this I instantly though it was a really nice idea, adding the notion that once we thought the earth was flat and that at some point you would fall of the ends. However when I read about this it turns out it has actually come into effect this actually exists by Dubi just like the “Palm Islands" when this was successful "Dubai released a 14-billion-dollar “The World” construction, 300 islands constructed in the rough shape of a map of the landmasses of the Earth in May, 2003." This just made the idea somewhat more exciting however if you read on through the article you realise the affect this has had on marine life.

N/A (fantasy island)
This image is a mix between photographs and editing imagery,
again I couldn’t find the artist for this is a background for your desk to I'm
just drawn to the obscurity of it because apart from the image saying nature
there is no information no made up names etc.
Mathew Cusick (maps)
Mathew Cusick makes collages out of old maps, some of his work has been recreated into another map like the one abouve is in the shape of a bird but could also be a newly discoved island.
This one is in a way been created into a map beacuase its showing you the curves in the road and what direction they take you wether it be towards the mountains or to water .

N/A (fantasy island)
I loved this as a fantasy island sadly I could find the name
of the artist but I’m putting it up all the same. The blackness makes me think
the possibilities of something like this being cut out of paper and then laid on
top of a painted background.
kahe 'inupa (maps)
Kahe’inupa
I liked these fantasy island because compared to the rest of
them these are the simplest and for my project it shows me I can go simple and
still create something as informative.
